Waitrose Support our Cubs!

In the Autumn of 2016 we were selected by Waitrose to qualify under their scheme for Charity Support.

Shoppers received tokens for their purchases and were given the option to place those tokens into appropriate boxes provided at the checkouts.

Irthlingborough Cubs were nominated to receive tokens and the total proceeds were £230.00.

We are most indebted to the customers at Waitrose for such a fine donation for our work with the Young People of Irthlingborough

Thank you - Karen Hutchinson (Cub Scout Leader)

Well done for participating in this popular Parish activity!

Whipsnade Takeover by Cubs!

On September 24th, the Cubs joined with the Nene Valley District to attend a "Tale-Over Day" at Whipsnade Zoo to celebrate 100 years of Cub Scouts. Arriving at 10am, we joined the thousands of other Cubs from all over the UK, ready to start our animal adventure! We were guided over to the Butterfly enclosure, where each Cub was given a pack containing maps, leaflets, magazines a special commemmorative story book and of course, a Badge. We were then free to enjoy the day.

First stop was the petting farm, where we met Turkeys, Goats (one was trying to escape!), a Unicorn, with it's horn removed for Safety Reasons - actually a small white Pony. Cubs asked to go to the play area to let off some steam before our trip to Africa. On the way the Cubs decided that it was lunch time despite Alela's watch saying it was only 11am!

Despite tired little legs we walked around five Continents, meeting Elephants, Rhinos, Bears, Lions, Wallablies, Chimpanzees, Penguins, Crocodiles and we even stretched as far as we could to feed the Giraffes! At the end of the day some very tired Cubs and equally exhausted Leaders boarded the coach home and were accompanied by the sound of gentle snoring!

What a fabulous way to commemorate 100 years of Cub Scouting alongside some of the Jungle Book animals!

On 24th June, the Irthlingborough Cub Scouts joined over 1000 Cubs from across the County of Northamptonshire's Wildest 100th Birthday for 2 nights of camping and activities in a very large field in Overstone Park.

As we gazed upon the endless sea of tents and joined the procession of Cubs snaking around the site for the Opening Ceremony, we realised  how large and awe-inspring the gathering was and what an exciting weekend we had ahead of us.

Despite the occasional thunderstorm and downpour, the Cubs enjoyed a wide range of activities including zorbing, shooting, inflatable tournaments, laser tag, tank driving, petrol go-karting,clay pigeon shooting, axe throwing, crafts and clay pigeon shooting to name just a few!

At night the Cubs settled into their new 'Cub Friendly Tents', a recent donation, in preparation for another day packed with activities before returning home on Sunday, muddy and extremely tired from a fun filled and memorable weekend.

Special thanks to Steve Kurn, Lance Goodman, Chloe Morris and Lyle Abbott for their help and support during at the weekend and to Paul Hudson for towing our Trailer.
