Brass Monkey Camp

Brass Monkey Camp 2013

Irthlingborough Scouts answered the County Scout Challenge to camp in cold weather – affectionately called ‘The Brass Monkey Camp’.

Scouts and their Leaders camped at Overstone despite very wet and cold conditions. Scouts enjoyed a muddy time, but usually clean up well when they get home!

A feature of the camp was plucking, preparing and spit-roasting woodpigeons especially popular when you have to spend lots of time trying to keep warm.

The Troop gained the much coveted ‘Brass Monkey Pennant'.

Chief Scout Awards 2012

On the 17th December, the DC Michele Height came along to Scouts and together with The Mayor, Councillor John Farrar, presented John Coomber with his Chief Scout award and congratulated both him and Luke Powell for gaining this achievement.

Wicksteed Tree Planting - April 26th to the 28th 2013

Over the weekend of the 26th to the 28th of April a group of 15 Scouts and 6 leaders planted somewhere in the region of 300 trees at Wicksteed Park in Kettering.

The weather over the weekend was colder than usual for the time of year. Although there were a few rain showers and even a hail storm the hardy group stuck to their task.

The Scouts really enjoyed themselves and they even commented that in years to come they could show their grandchildren what they did when they were Scouts - What a legacy to leave!

Our heartfelt thanks goes to Wicksteed Park for allowing us to be part of the conservation work on site.

Chief Scout Awards 2012

On the 25th November, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from Groups from around the Nene Valley assembled at Rushden’s Scout HQ for the “Chief Scout Awards” Annual Ceremony. This is where Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are awarded their Chief Scout’s Bronze, Silver & Gold Certificates.

Two Scouts from Irthlingborough achieved their Gold Award, John Coomber & Luke Powell. Unfortunately, John could not attend. The Award was presented to Luke by the Mayor of Rushden and the District Commissioner in front of a crowd of Leaders and Parents from the Groups within the District.
