The Queens Birthday Beacon

On April 21st the Scout Group were invited by the Town Mayor, Allan Short, to take part in the lighting of the Beacon to celebrate HM the Queen's 90th Birthday!

Prominent among the crowd at the Crowhill Recreation Ground were the Beavers who eagerly awaited the lighting of the Beacon.

Our thanks must go to Claire, Beaver Leader, for organising our particiption in this very special event.


St.Georges Day - April 27th 2014- at St.Peter's and BBQ

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and their Parents and Friends attended St.Peter’s Church to celebrate St.George’s Day 2014.

A Special Service to give thanks for Scouting’s Patron St.George and the example he set for us all. The address was given by Father John, who welcomed the Group to St.Peter’s.

During the Service the Prestigious Chief Scouts Gold Award was presented to Scout Arend.

After the Blessing of our Colours the Group walked to Stanwick Lakes, enjoying the Outdoor Amusements en-route.

The Scout Active Support Unit arranged a BBQ for all the Young People, Leaders, Helpers and Parents and served over 80 hungry people.

AGM Report

On Thursday 22nd May the Group held it’s 105th Annual General Meeting.

GSL Nick Powell welcomed the guests who included parents, Trustees, Group Supporters and Friends.

He made special mention of all the work put in by our team of Leaders, all Volunteer, and thanked them for their tireless effort for the Young People of the Town.

Special welcome went to Tony Knott from Nene Valley District who presented the Awards and congratulated the Group on another successful year.

The sections of the Group gave on-screen presentations showing the work of the Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts and this year featured the presentation by the SASU, the first to be made to an AGM. The SASU provides support for ALL sections within the Group and also takes part in fundraising and support activities for the Town’s annual events.

The lively meeting concluded with a BBQ with the Explorer Scouts serving Hamburgers and the Scouts making the tea and coffee.

Former G.S.L. Receives Service Award

Our Former Group Scout Leader Lyle Abbott was presented with the Chief Scouts Award for his 50 Years’ Service as an Adult Leader at a special evening for fellow Leaders, Supporters and Friends.


Tony Knott (District Training Manager – Nene Valley) made the presentation and Matthew Howell presented an engraved plaque on behalf of the Group members and Friends to acknowledge his long service to the Group.


District and Town Councillor Marika Hillson congratulated him on his Service to the Community.

Irthlingborough Christmas Street Party

The group contributed to the Town's Christmas street party in December which saw Betty York, the Town's oldest inhabitant given the honour of switching on the festive lights.

The Scouts sent some elves to help Santa in his grotto, the SASU served tea and coffee and the group provided a climbing wall.

Group Scout Leader Nick presented a cheque to Mr.Brian Walker of the Royal British Legion - proceeds from Refreshments from Remembrance Sunday. Nick also presented Marika Hillson with the 'Thanks Badge' to acknowledge her support in gaining a National Lottery Grant

A big thank you to all those who gave their time in this important Town event.
