Group Camp 2017

This year's Group Camp was held at Wadenhoe and formed the basis for Karen Hutchinson's Full Camping Permit. More than 60 Young People came along Cubs and Scouts to camp and the Beavers to spend a full day at camp. Activities included a Bouncy Castle, lots of Scouting Skills, a BBQ, and the Grand Campfire. Despite threat of bad weather we managed to bring all our tents home - dry! Congratulations to Karen who was successful in gaining her Permit enabling more Young People to take part in camps and expeditions. Thanks must go to all the Leaders and Scout Active Supporters who made the camp possible and supported her.

Sailing Camp at Ipswich 2017

Thanks to the generosity of Alan and Margery Watts, the Scouts and Explorer Scouts enjoyed a first-class weekend at Hallowtree Scout Camp and on the 'Mary G' , their ocean-going sailing boat. Everyone had the opportunity to sail out into the North Sea from the River Orwell, having a chance to navigate, steer and man the sails on the boat (and of course take turns at being sea-sick!). Scout Active Support Members Steve Abbott, Mike Digby, Nick Powell and Chris Ward took over the camp organisation and Steve was keen to try out one of the new fires with great results, providing a grand BBQ in honour of Mr and Mrs.Watts! Members also visited the nearby Jimmy's Farm , having a go at fishing and meeting some of the animals. Thanks must go to Lisa, Gill, Lance and Karen for making this a great weekend.

Medals of Merits for our Leaders

At the Annual General Meeting of the Nene Valley Scout District on June 27th, and much to their surprise, Lisa Swainston (our Group Scout Leader) and Fred Harris (Assistant Group Scout Leader - Beavers) received Chief Scouts Commendations for Good Services to Scouting. District Commissioner Michele Height gave out the awards in recognition of the work that the two Leaders carry out for Scouting. Congratulations!

Thanks Badge for Shooting Range

A Scouts 'Thanks Badge' was presented to Chris Hobbs-Rex for constructing a superb Shooting Range for use by all the Group members. Chris, having facilities at his Company, Stagecraft Visual Communications, situated in Higham Ferrers, designed and manufactured the range free of charge - a great and much appreciated donation which became one of Irthlingborough's greater assets! Congratulations!

Beavers Celebrate Fathers Day

Usually Young People celebrate Mothers Day with flowers and chocolates! Beavers did it in another way - by asking their Dads to come along to a Beaver Colony Meeting and the Beavers served tea and biscuits......... Thirsty Dads and eager Beavers made for a great evening.
